A sewing machine stitched together more than fabric. For Hanita, it became the start of a journey that transformed her family’s life.

Life was never easy for Hanita and her husband. With an adolescent daughter and a curious 3-year-old son, every day was a careful balancing act. Her husband managed a small shop in town, earning what he could, but the income was unpredictable and rarely enough to cover their family’s needs. Hanita longed to do more—to help her family not just survive, but truly flourish.

When Hanita heard about the microloan program, something sparked within her. She enrolled in the two-month financial literacy training, learning how to manage money and plan for a sustainable business. By the end of the course, she was ready—and hopeful. Her first loan allowed her to purchase a sewing machine and open a small tailoring shop.

From the quiet hum of that machine came the sound of transformation. Hanita’s skill and creativity quickly attracted customers from her community. Encouraged by her success, she took a second loan to grow her business, purchasing more supplies and eventually hiring another woman to work with her. Today, while her young son plays beside her in the shop, Hanita proudly creates around five garments a day, each one stitched with care and purpose.

More than just improving their finances, this opportunity has reshaped her family’s future. With steady income, Hanita and her husband are able to help their 14-year-old daughter to continue her education—something that once felt out of reach. Her daughter now dreams of becoming a nurse, inspired by the possibilities she sees in her mother’s determination.

Through diligence, hope, and the support of the microloan program, Hanita and her family are leaving poverty behind. What began with a single sewing machine has become a thriving business—and the foundation for a better life filled with promise and opportunity.

Transform Lives Today

Through Asha Partners’ micro-finance program, thousands of families are now coming out of poverty — with dignity – as they start or develop a business through the help of a micro-loan. Once the small loan (that buys a goat, cow, or sewing machine, etc.) is repaid, the funds are then given as a loan to the next entrepreneur. The money is continually recycled, like a gift that keeps on giving.

We’ve distributed thousands of micro-loans to entrepreneurs who are eager to work hard in order to improve their lives and provide for their families. Over 90% of these loans go to women.

How Microloans Work

When you donate through Asha Partners, your one-time gift is issued to a hard-working family living in extreme poverty.
After the loan gets repaid, it is immediately reissued to another qualified applicant, so your one-time donation continues to give indefinitely.
